Dove Chocolate Discoveries Segment on Martha Stewart Show Was Bittersweet

DOVE Chocolate Discoveries was featured on the Martha Stewart Show yesterday, December 16th.  While I was excited to see the products on display on the set and to see the too short introduction of  DOVE Chocolatier, Erica Christenson from Madison WI; I was very disappointed that Martha chose to make Chocolate Mousse from scratch instead of using our Mousse Mix which makes an easy and elegant Chocolate Mousse.

Yes, Martha did pipe the her dessert into the DOVE Chocolate Dessert Cups and yes, she used DOVE Dark Chocolate in the Mousse but the segment left me just a little confused.  You see, the philosophy of DOVE Chocolate Discoveries is that anyone can use our products and easily achieve Martha Stewart's made from scratch results....

While I am flattered that Martha used our Chocolate and our Dessert Cups, I am left wondering why she went to all that trouble to make a Mousse from scratch....when just two feet away was a Dove Mousse Kit on the counter?

C'mon Martha!!!  Wouldn't it have been better to have our DOVE Chocolatier demonstrate to you how anyone can make an elegant Chocolate Mousse in their own kitchen in about 4 minutes using DOVE Chocolate and the DCD Mousse Kit?  Your staff prepared 3 batches of your Mousse so that you could demonstrate the recipe. You could have done the same thing with the DOVE Mousse Mix and 2 bars of Dark DOVE chocolate with one mixing bowl and a spatula!

Or even better....you and Erica could have demonstrated both versions on camera and then held a mini tasting to compare both versions.

What I really liked yesterday was
  1. seeing the giant DOVE Chocolate Discoveries logo on screen at the end of the segment
  2. Martha announcing that everyone in the audience carried home a goodie package with the Mousse Mix and the Petiite Dessert Cups
  3. the Dove Promises commercial after the segment

Publicity is publicity so I guess I will get over this....but next time Martha, please call me for advice!

DOVE Chocolate Fondue Recipe

Classic DOVE Chocolate Fondue
Many people wonder why chefs add whipping cream to chocolate when making fondue.

Q: Why can't you just use melted chocolate in a fondue pot?
A: Chocolate will scorch when exposed to direct heat from a candle or electric burner.
Mixing Chocolate and Whipping Cream helps prevent scorching.

6 ounces DOVE Dark or Milk Chocolate, chopped

1/2 cup light whipping cream
***********************
In a saucepan, gently heat cream until bubbles form around edge.
Remove pan from heat; whisk in chopped chocolate until melted and smooth.
Transfer to fondue pot and keep warm over low heat; stir occasionally
to prevent chocolate from becoming lumpy.

My next recipe will be for a White Chocolate Martini...till then, Carrie Geyer.

Unofficial DOVE Chocolate Nutcracker Is a Great Gift for Your Favorite DOVE Chocolate Discoveries Chocolatier!

Is this the coolest Steinbach nutcracker??
As soon as I saw it I had to have it!

While he is officially known as the "Steinbach Gingerbread Baker Nutcracker" it is not hard to imagine that those are really Dove Chocolate Candies on his tray! He even has Dove Chocolate Discoveries colors. Steinbach Nutcrackers are imported from Germany and the craftmanship and attention to details such as the assembly and painting are impeccable.

I plan on using him for my Holiday Vendor Event Table Displays (hmm...I better tell my accountant) and as a honored guest on my fireplace mantel.

I love it. I had to have it and I thought you would love it too!

Check him out on Amazon...that is where I found mine.
There are also 3 other gingerbread nutcrackers that are made by Steinbach and are worth seeing after you go to Amazon. But for now the nutcracker in the picture below has my attention! Happy Holidays from Carrie Geyer!

Things to Consider Before Joining a Direct Sales Company Like Dove Chocolate Discoveries

A recent online article in the MedinaCountyMoms.com outlined what to look for in a work at home business. The article mentioned Dove Chocolate Discoveries as a new and unique company. An excerpt from the article follows:

“There are 15 million people in the U.S. involved in direct selling,” he said. “It is growing very rapidly. We’re looking at a major surge of people going into the business.”

About 90 percent of the direct sales force is made up of women and about 77 percent are married. More than half have attended college.

Offen said home-party type businesses are generally a safer bet when considering a direct-selling venture because a bonafide product is sold.

New trends in home party businesses include making confections with Dove Chocolate Discoveries or planning home decor with Southern Living at Home.

Upscale companies such as Swarovski crystal and Silpada, which sells sterling silver jewelry, also are on the rise. Even Jockey is getting in on the act, selling underwear and athletic wear through home parties.

The key is to thoroughly evaluate any opportunity. And if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Experts say with unemployment and foreclosures on the rise, many families are grasping at opportunities they wouldn’t consider in other financial times.

“If people weren’t so desperate to make money and pay their house note, they wouldn’t be so likely to fall for these schemes,” Breyault said.

Is it legit?

  • When checking out a work-at-home business:
  • Get everything in writing.
  • Make sure any materials or supplies you purchase can be returned for at least 90 percent of its purchase price.
  • Check references, and not just the ones they give you. Find people you know who work for the company.
  • Check with your local Better Business Bureau to see if there have been any complaints.
  • Make sure you are aware of any local regulations about operating a business out of your home.
  • Look at where the promised compensation is coming from. Is it from the sale of products or for recruiting others?
  • Look for red flags such as high start-up costs for training kits or membership fees.
  • Examine the support system. It should be low pressure and helpful. If it is high-pressure to perform, this is a red flag.
  • If you want to get out of the business, it should be easy.
  • If you go to a meeting for the company, check to see if everyone is from the same group, such as a church or school. Sometimes scammers target groups to take advantage of social pressure.
  • Stay with a company you have heard of, or check with agencies such as the Direct Selling Association, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service or the Federal Trade Commission to see if it’s a legitimate business.

Read the article to learn what makes Dove Chocolate Discoveries a "good company to join".
