Dove Chocolate Discoveries Segment on Martha Stewart Show Was Bittersweet

DOVE Chocolate Discoveries was featured on the Martha Stewart Show yesterday, December 16th.  While I was excited to see the products on display on the set and to see the too short introduction of  DOVE Chocolatier, Erica Christenson from Madison WI; I was very disappointed that Martha chose to make Chocolate Mousse from scratch instead of using our Mousse Mix which makes an easy and elegant Chocolate Mousse.

Yes, Martha did pipe the her dessert into the DOVE Chocolate Dessert Cups and yes, she used DOVE Dark Chocolate in the Mousse but the segment left me just a little confused.  You see, the philosophy of DOVE Chocolate Discoveries is that anyone can use our products and easily achieve Martha Stewart's made from scratch results....

While I am flattered that Martha used our Chocolate and our Dessert Cups, I am left wondering why she went to all that trouble to make a Mousse from scratch....when just two feet away was a Dove Mousse Kit on the counter?

C'mon Martha!!!  Wouldn't it have been better to have our DOVE Chocolatier demonstrate to you how anyone can make an elegant Chocolate Mousse in their own kitchen in about 4 minutes using DOVE Chocolate and the DCD Mousse Kit?  Your staff prepared 3 batches of your Mousse so that you could demonstrate the recipe. You could have done the same thing with the DOVE Mousse Mix and 2 bars of Dark DOVE chocolate with one mixing bowl and a spatula!

Or even better....you and Erica could have demonstrated both versions on camera and then held a mini tasting to compare both versions.

What I really liked yesterday was
  1. seeing the giant DOVE Chocolate Discoveries logo on screen at the end of the segment
  2. Martha announcing that everyone in the audience carried home a goodie package with the Mousse Mix and the Petiite Dessert Cups
  3. the Dove Promises commercial after the segment

Publicity is publicity so I guess I will get over this....but next time Martha, please call me for advice!

Martha Stewart Will Entertain DOVE CHOCOLATE DISCOVERIES™

The Martha Stewart Show &
DOVE CHOCOLATE DISCOVERIES™

   It's A Good Thing!!!

The Martha Stewart Show will feature DOVE CHOCOLATE DISCOVERIES on Wednesday, December 16 (barring any programming schedule changes). The 2 – 3 minute segment will air on all stations that carry the show. It’s a good thing!

DOVE Chocolatier, Erica Christenson from Madison, WI will be joining Martha. Erica is currently #1 in sales volume and October’s top recruiter. During the segment, she and Martha will create a decadent holiday dessert in minutes - while they teach viewers about our exclusive line of chocolate products and entertaining ideas sold by Chocolatiers like me.

Together they will showcase the versatility of DCD products and the endless possibilities for easy entertaining and gift giving. And generate vast interest in DCD among Martha’s audience, who’s already likely to find the combination of chocolate, home entertaining and a business opportunity appealing!

All lucky audience members will receive a tasty DCD giveaway from Martha at the end of the show – to ensure we remain on their minds well after the lights go down. The timing is no mistake either - the holidays being a time of year when making extra cash and finding financial freedom are most appealing.

This DCD opportunity is an extension of the existing DOVE® brands partnership with Martha Stewart. DOVE® will also have two on air segments on December 9 and 10.

We’re extremely excited about this opportunity and hope you are too! Tune in on December 16, as we continue to build brand awareness and share the fabulous DOVE CHOCOLATE DISCOVERIES  opportunity with chocolate lovers across the nation!

DOVE Chocolate Fondue Recipe

Classic DOVE Chocolate Fondue
Many people wonder why chefs add whipping cream to chocolate when making fondue.

Q: Why can't you just use melted chocolate in a fondue pot?
A: Chocolate will scorch when exposed to direct heat from a candle or electric burner.
Mixing Chocolate and Whipping Cream helps prevent scorching.

6 ounces DOVE Dark or Milk Chocolate, chopped

1/2 cup light whipping cream
***********************
In a saucepan, gently heat cream until bubbles form around edge.
Remove pan from heat; whisk in chopped chocolate until melted and smooth.
Transfer to fondue pot and keep warm over low heat; stir occasionally
to prevent chocolate from becoming lumpy.

More recipes can be found at my Recipe site for Dove Chocolate Discoveries.

My next recipe will be for a White Chocolate Martini...till then, Carrie Geyer.

Unofficial DOVE Chocolate Nutcracker Is a Great Gift for Your Favorite DOVE Chocolate Discoveries Chocolatier!

Is this the coolest Steinbach nutcracker??
As soon as I saw it I had to have it!

While he is officially known as the "Steinbach Gingerbread Baker Nutcracker" it is not hard to imagine that those are really Dove Chocolate Candies on his tray! He even has Dove Chocolate Discoveries colors. Steinbach Nutcrackers are imported from Germany and the craftmanship and attention to details such as the assembly and painting are impeccable.

I plan on using him for my Holiday Vendor Event Table Displays (hmm...I better tell my accountant) and as a honored guest on my fireplace mantel.

I love it. I had to have it and I thought you would love it too!

Check him out on Amazon...that is where I found mine.
There are also 3 other gingerbread nutcrackers that are made by Steinbach and are worth seeing after you go to Amazon. But for now the nutcracker in the picture below has my attention! Happy Holidays from Carrie Geyer!

Things to Consider Before Joining a Direct Sales Company Like Dove Chocolate Discoveries

A recent online article in the MedinaCountyMoms.com outlined what to look for in a work at home business. The article mentioned Dove Chocolate Discoveries as a new and unique company. An excerpt from the article follows:

“There are 15 million people in the U.S. involved in direct selling,” he said. “It is growing very rapidly. We’re looking at a major surge of people going into the business.”

About 90 percent of the direct sales force is made up of women and about 77 percent are married. More than half have attended college.

Offen said home-party type businesses are generally a safer bet when considering a direct-selling venture because a bonafide product is sold.

New trends in home party businesses include making confections with Dove Chocolate Discoveries or planning home decor with Southern Living at Home.

Upscale companies such as Swarovski crystal and Silpada, which sells sterling silver jewelry, also are on the rise. Even Jockey is getting in on the act, selling underwear and athletic wear through home parties.

The key is to thoroughly evaluate any opportunity. And if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Experts say with unemployment and foreclosures on the rise, many families are grasping at opportunities they wouldn’t consider in other financial times.

“If people weren’t so desperate to make money and pay their house note, they wouldn’t be so likely to fall for these schemes,” Breyault said.

Is it legit?

  • When checking out a work-at-home business:
  • Get everything in writing.
  • Make sure any materials or supplies you purchase can be returned for at least 90 percent of its purchase price.
  • Check references, and not just the ones they give you. Find people you know who work for the company.
  • Check with your local Better Business Bureau to see if there have been any complaints.
  • Make sure you are aware of any local regulations about operating a business out of your home.
  • Look at where the promised compensation is coming from. Is it from the sale of products or for recruiting others?
  • Look for red flags such as high start-up costs for training kits or membership fees.
  • Examine the support system. It should be low pressure and helpful. If it is high-pressure to perform, this is a red flag.
  • If you want to get out of the business, it should be easy.
  • If you go to a meeting for the company, check to see if everyone is from the same group, such as a church or school. Sometimes scammers target groups to take advantage of social pressure.
  • Stay with a company you have heard of, or check with agencies such as the Direct Selling Association, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service or the Federal Trade Commission to see if it’s a legitimate business.

Read the article to learn what makes Dove Chocolate Discoveries a "good company to join".

Chocolate plus Bed and Breakfast equals Two Sweet Businesses in Hammondsport NY

Chocolate entrepreneurs, Deborah Rader and Ray Olenzek, are the proprietors of a unique Chocolate Shop located at 69 Shethar Street in Hammondsport NY on Keuka Lake.

What makes their shop "The Chocolatier of Hammondsport" so unique is that originally when the couple arrived in Hammondsport 3 years ago they were searching for a Bed and Breakfast to buy. After taking over the Captain's Cottage Bed and Breakfast, they realized that they would need to find more streams of income to thrive.

Chocolatier friends from their home state of New Jersey suggested adding a Chocolate Shop and a new business concept was born: "Bed and Chocolate"!

Overnight guests are treated to a Chocolate Treat at bedtime and Chocolate Pastry in the morning. Ray tells new guests that "breakfast is across the street for $5.95..."we only do chocolate at the Captain's Cottage".

The Chocolate Shop nestled inside the house features some of the creamiest home made fudges that I have ever sampled and delicious One Pound Frozen Drinks (my family loved the Chocolate Fudge and Peanut Butter Fudge...the Frozen Mocha Drink was to die for!) They also sell Gourmet Chocolates made by their friends in New Jersey. Ray travels back to New Jersey every few days to replenish their inventory.

As good as the chocolate and ambience of the shop is....it is the personality and charm of Ron and Deborah that will bring us back to visit the only "Bed and Chocolate" in Hammondsport, New York!

Dove Chocolate Discoveries Chocolatier from Seattle WA Publishes "Scrumptious World" Blog with Recipes and New Dove Product Info

Seattle area's Ana Toussaint, a DOVE Chocolate Discoveries Chocolatier, from the state of Washington is the newest member of my team. Ana lives on Whidbey Island near Seattle. I like to tease her that she hosts the only Dove Tasting Parties that are smack dab in the Pacific Ocean! Well, sort of...google Clinton WA 98236 and you can see where she lives.

Anyway, Ana is a really sharp and creative person and has started a Wordpress Blog called Scrumptious World's Blog about her Dove Chocolate Discoveries business. What I like about her blog is that she is focusing on the Chocolate! Although the blog is brand new I can see that she plans to feature lots of recipes for all us foodies, cooks, bakers and chefs.

Plus she is finding interesting news items...check out the UK story about a new British Chocolate Study (150 British women are getting paid to eat chocolate everyday for a year! Don't worry Brits....someday Dove Chocolate Discoveries will be doing business in the UK and you can get all get paid just like us American Chocolatiers for eating Dove Chocolate....)

Be sure and check out Ana's blog. It is a fun read.

"Picky Eater" Reviews New Dove Chocolate Discoveries Products

Jolene Thym of the Oakland Tribune has written a short review of the new products available in our Spring/Summer catalog. The products mentioned include: Coconut Chocolate Chip Smoothie Mix, Petite Dessert Cups, White Chocolate and Mint filled Chocolate Baking Bits.

"BLENDER BLISS: Just to make sure you're completely surrounded in chocolate, I want to give you a rundown on the newest from Dove Chocolate Discoveries, which has just introduced some adorable dessert cups that are $28 for a box of 20 and a Coconut Chocolate Chip Smoothie Mix ($18) that is a serious rival to Starbucks' frozen drinks. They also introduced some great tasting white chocolate for the home pastry chef, and adorable, minty chocolate bits that are $10 for 16 ounces. They're shaped like mini-peanut butter cups and made with deep, dark chocolate. The only trick to these treats is that you have to find them through a representative because the company is structured like Pampered Chef, selling primarily through home parties."

Dove Chocolate Discoveries Business Concept Reviewed

I recently ran across a short article about DCD Chocolate Tasting Parties on the "Crunchy Marketing Nuggets" wordpress blog. The author Lisa Fritts has done an excellent job of summarizing the Dove Chocolate Discoveries concept into a few short paragraphs.

"...it’s all together interesting, different, yet logical to see an in-home party business centered around the sale of chocolates. Dove Discoveries program is much like a Pampered Chef or a Tupperware. You can choose to become a “Chocolatier” (sales rep) or host a party. And enjoy tasting - and buying - different chocolate based products right in your own home."

Lisa is an excellent writer and has lots of interesting postings about the world of business, advertising, marketing and consumers on her wordpress blog. Check her fine work out at http://www.crunchymarketingnuggets.wordpress.com/2009/02/17/wom-sweet.

Contact me by email at freechocolate@comcast.net for more information about making money as a DOVE Chocolate Discoveries Chocolatier....a great business model for anyone who is looking for a chance to improve their cash flow and earnings.

Type-2 Diabetes Study: Dove Dark Chocolate is Good for You, Too!

Below is an excerpt from an article in New Jersey's Asbury Park Press. Information about a study by Mars, Incorporated is included. Dove Chocolate Discoveries Chef Series Dark Chocolate is the most popular chocolate we sell at our Chocolate Tasting Parties. In March, Sugar Free Dark Chocolate and White Chocolate will be added to our catalog. The Sugar Free Dark Chocolate is a perfectly sized portion for anyone who is craving a taste of Chocolate.

From the article:

"Mars, Incorporated, conducted a two-part study on the effects of cocoa flavanol in adults with type-2 diabetes, said Whitney Williams, spokeswoman for Mars. The company found that drinking a cocoa flavanol-rich beverage, made with the company's cocoapro cocoa, can have a positive impact on blood vessel dysfunction in adults with type-2 diabetes, she said. The study was conducted on men and women between the ages of 50 and 80 years old with established and stably-treated type-2 diabetes, according to research provided by Mars.

"What research is showing us is that cocoa flavanol plays an interesting role in the body," said Emily Korns, communications manager and registered dietitian for Mars Health and Nutrition."It actually helps to improve blood vessel function. It helps the blood vessel walls expand and lets blood flow through more freely," Korns said.Cocoa flavanol has a lot of health benefits in terms of heart disease and high blood pressure, and even in diabetes, Korns said."So whenever you include cocoa flavanol in your diet, it can have an improvement in blood vessel functions," she said.

Dove uses a patented process called Cocoapro on its dark chocolate, Korns said. The company starts the process by choosing beans that initially have a high cocoa flavanol content, she added."We treat them (cocoa beans) very, very gently throughout the whole chocolate production process," she said. "We know the end product of our Dove dark chocolate retains those cocoa flavanols that are naturally occurring anyway.""

5 More Things to do with Dove Chef Series White Chocolate!

Five more things to do with Dove White Chocolate:
1. Shave the White Chocolate in our Dessert Decorator and decorate cakes and chocolate mousse or top our hot drinks with it

2. Top our Truffle Fudge Brownies with White Chocolate Ganache

3. Bake our Double Chocolate Chip Cookies in a mini muffin pan to create thumbprint cookies. When you remove the cookies from the oven, take a spoon and press down on the center of the cookie, and pour the melted White Chocolate in the “thumbprint” and serve when cooled.

4. Create White Chocolate Chunk Double Chocolate Chip Cookies – cut the White Chocolate into chunks and stir into the cookie mix with the DOVE® Dark Chocolate Chips and bake as instructed

5. Create White Chocolate Dessert Cups by filling an individual silicone cupcake mold with tempered White Chocolate. Empty the excess White Chocolate back into the Tempering Unit or onto Parchment paper to create bark. Refrigerate for 20-25 minutes to set up and then slowly peel the silicone away from the white chocolate dessert cup.

Dove Ad in USA Today Critiqued by Direct Sales Expert Cynthia Maniglia

Recently Dove Chocolate Discoveries ran an advertisement in USA Today.  It featured the story of a Dove Chocolatier named Jill Young who live in California.  It is a very interesting "human interest story" style ad and in my own biased opinion first rate.

Cynthia Maniglia, a Philadelphia direct marketing consultant and publisher of the blog, www.copygrove.blogspot.com.  has featured the ad on her blog.  She wrote: "Good ad: Good use of testimonial copy to convey the main selling points of the new program. And great headline! Nice use of photography, too."

Carrie Geyer, Dove Chocolatier, Recruits Chocolate Lovers to Run Their Own Chocolatier Business

In a September, 2008 press release, MARS Snackfood US "announced the launch of DOVE Chocolate Discoveries(TM), the company's new venture into direct selling. DOVE Chocolate Discoveries(TM) provides chocolate-lovers the opportunity to discover their inner entrepreneur -- or "Chocolatier" -- by starting an at-home chocolate business, beginning with hosting chocolate parties, selling exclusive DOVE Chocolate Discoveries(TM) products and developing a network of Chocolatiers."

The press release explains that "all Chocolatiers are trained and equipped to hold chocolate parties that focus on their customer's area of interest -- candy-making, simple desserts, drinks, or simply savoring the chocolate as-is. After attending a party, guests have the opportunity to become Chocolatiers themselves or host their own Chocolate Tasting party. These tasting parties are the only place where DOVE Chocolate Discoveries(TM) products are sold."

I feel fortunate to have found this company. It is the first time that I have enjoyed real success in direct sales. Since joining the company in September I have had 10 parties with more bookings scheduled in January and February. I am making money and having fun. Public response to the concept, the company and the products is very positive. I have had repeat sales and friends asking me if they can host a party...
